What is redacted (blacked out) text?
Redacted text is text where words have been covered with solid black bars so they can no longer be read — the look you know from declassified government files and leaked memos. Online, the same effect is created with Unicode block characters: every letter is swapped for a █ (U+2588 "full block"), so "Top secret plan" becomes "███ ██████ ████".
Because the output is ordinary text rather than an image, blacked out text works anywhere you can paste text: X/Twitter, Instagram captions, Discord, WhatsApp, Reddit, email, Word or Google Docs. Keeping the spaces preserves the word lengths, which is what makes it look like a genuinely censored document.
